What opened at Dollywood today, and how big is NightFlight Expedition?

NightFlight Expedition stacks four rides into one trip. The Mountain Press lists them as an immersive night flight over the Smoky Mountains, a whitewater rafting run with more than a half-million gallons of water, an indoor roller coaster, and a winding boat ride on a shimmering lake.

InPark Magazine called it the largest single attraction investment in Dollywood's history and the park's 11th roller coaster. The ride lasts more than five minutes and sits entirely inside that 44,000-square-foot building. Height requirement: 39 inches.

Qualifying season pass holders got technical-rehearsal rides Aug. 15–18. Today is the public day.

Who previewed the ride Friday, and what did Dolly Parton say?

Dollywood Company President Eugene Naughton hosted a Friday preview. Dolly Parton stayed in Nashville on her doctors' advice and sent a video. She called it "the biggest and most expensive ride that we have ever added to Dollywood."

Naughton: "As Dolly said, this really is the biggest thing we've ever done here at Dollywood." Treat park language as a demand story, not a guaranteed lift in list price.

Why did Dollywood put a $60 million ride indoors?

Ramey told The Mountain Press the indoor box was a strategic move. When summer lightning shuts the outdoor coasters down, NightFlight Expedition can still run. Same idea in colder months.
